Lucky Girl Dress | Sew Like My Mom

One thing I’ve really enjoyed about blogging is the different people I’ve gotten to meet along the way. A few weeks ago I was approached by a pattern designer named Lucy Blaire and she asked me to participate in her Lucky Girl Dress blog tour. Talk about flattery! I jumped at the chance because I LOVE the dress.

I’ve since checked out all of her stuff and I just adore it! The animal patterns are at the top of my list of things I need to have! I mean, I’ve got 4 kids and she’s got 4 animals and I just need to have them! But back to the dress…

It’s adorable, right?! And so, so easy to put together! I really didn’t change anything from the original pattern, I just made my skirt 2 pieces instead of the intended circle skirt because I didn’t want upside down owls on the back.

The Riley Blake knits are really some of the best that I’ve worked with. They’re uber soft, don’t shrink a ton in the wash, and that dress seems like it’s the most comfortable dress ever made!

I enjoyed playing with the print on the sleeve cuffs. The owls are just the most precious!

My only issue with the dress was that I found it to run big. I was making it for Ella and she fit perfectly into the measurements for a 3, so without trying any of it on, I sewed the 3 and it was big on her. She could wear it, but there’s definitely room to grow. But it fits Chloe like a glove and she’s in a 5. Ella was bummed she didn’t get her owl dress, but I’m going to hack the pattern and turn it into a hooded shirt with a kangaroo pocket for her and she’s SO excited about it! Plus, I’m sure in November when it gets cold again she’ll be able to wear it, so it turned out for the best in the end since I get another season out of it!
