party planning June 21, 2012 – Posted in: Family
I’ve been in full-blown party planning mode for weeks! Sofie’s 4th birthday is next week and we’re having her party on Sunday. But between my need to unpack and clean the house before having 30+ people over and my desire to throw her a totally awesome party (because she’s literally been talking about it for months), I’ve worn myself out! The Hubs has been traveling a lot with work and I realized a few days ago I bit off more than I can chew alone!
But it’s still going to be amazing. Sofie’s Strawberry Shortcake 4th birthday will be brought to our guests via Pinterest. Seriously, how did I do anything before Pinterest?! I started searching months ago and assembled ideas into a board.
I’m using this amazing recipe to make her all natural cake. My amazing sister is going to help me make my ideas for decorating into reality. After her help last year, I think she’s stuck helping me for many years to come!
I’m taking my inspiration from this cake. We’re going to attempt a double layer–wish us luck!
And I’ve drooled over table arrangements. I wish I was this crafty!
There is lots of inspiration for food and decor out there, too!
No party would be complete without an outfit made by me!
Her dress is still in the works and a tutorial on it will be featured next week on the Melly Sews Summer Sundress Series, so stay tuned for that! In the mean time, check out the other sundress creations featured!

I love Pinterest for my kids’ birthday parties too! Just out of curiousity, are you planning to use natural colouring for the fondant/frosting on your cake too? If you are, please share your methodology – I am slowly phasing out the artificial colours from the parts of the cake the kids eat (I still use the fake colours for gumpaste cake toppers and parts that aren’t eaten).
I just found your blog last night, and I’m excited to peruse your sewing projects. Good luck with the birthday party!

Love your blog! I helped throw my nieces strawberry shortcake 3rd birthday party and I made strawberry and angel food cake kabobs, and they were the hit of party! Just wanted to pass that on to you…
