Bob’s Big Boy Halloween Costume September 18, 2013 – Posted in: Tutorials
I’m really excited about making my first ever BOY costume! And it’s brought to you today by the Third Annual Handmade Costume Series from The Train to Crazy.
I have a love of all things vintage and kitschy and have always had an appreciation for icons from eras past. I’ve never been to Bob’s Big Boy, but I think the little burger boy is precious. I always thought it would make an adorable costume for a little boy and now that I have one, I think he’s perfect!
He even has the hair flip perfected!
Forget about Bob’s burgers, I could eat him!
Bob’s Big Boy Halloween costume was a pretty easy to pull together! First I grabbed a onesie and did a freezer paper stencil for the letters. I could have appliqued it, too, I suppose.
Then I got out my favorite pants pattern. I took an inch out of the piece in the middle, and raised the top 2.5″ to make the pants tighter and taller.
Then it was basic pant construction.
For the straps, I cut them 3 rows wide with white on either side and stitched them together at a 1/4″ seam allowance. I sewed one end shut, cut the corner on an angle, then turned them.
Centering the back seam down the middle, it made the bottom seam perpendicular to the strap. Pushing the back side creates a perfect point on the front side!
Then I made buttonholes at the bottom in the points, attached the straps to the back of the pants, and sewed the buttons on.
His shoes (which I didn’t get a good picture of) are an oldie but goodie tutorial found here. They’re only 3m and 6m sizes. Jess at If Only They Would Nap has a free pattern for size 12-18m and I bet if you print off both, you could easily create a 12m size. 😉
Happy Halloween from me and my Big Boy! Please head over to The Train to Crazy and check out all the other amazing tutorials!
