Hope Floats Tunic May 13, 2014 – Posted in: Sewing
I met Lynn, the sweet designer behind Bebelambs, back when I was testing my Kudzu pattern. She did a phenomenal job for me and I’ve enjoyed working with her. So when she asked for bloggers to try her pattern for her pattern tour, I happily volunteered!
Sofia saw the pattern on my computer and asked me to make it for her. I was glad she loved it because it’s right up her alley. I’ve mentioned before that she struggles in the summer when her back gets hot. It’s almost like she’s possessed by a beast on fire when she starts feeling her back heat up. So I’ve been after a backless summer wardrobe and this more than fits the bill!
I found this adorable pink eyelet in my stash. It’s from JoAnn’s and I bought it not knowing exactly what I wanted to use it for. The floral and chevron on the bodice also came from there, and they all went together perfectly. Sof stuck close while I sewed and as I got the skirt on, she begged me to leave it long. It’s got matching shorts underneath, but unless she’s playing hard, you’d never know it! I changed a few things about my Hope Floats Tunic–I gathered my straps on the bodice to open the neck up more, and I sewed the front and back to each other, enclosing the elastic ends since she doesn’t like itching in her clothes, and added the skirt to the finished bodice. I also didn’t measure the width of the skirt piece, I just used the width of the fabric. And I obviously didn’t hem it to tunic length. But those long legs just keep getting longer so I know it’ll be more of a traditional tunic before I know it!
We both absolutely adore this pattern! It’s got great running and twirling attributes, it kept her cool in 90 degree weather while she frolicked and worked up a sweat (I could NOT get her to stand still!), and it’s pink! It went together quickly and beautifully and I can see making many more of these during the long, hot summer ahead.
So head to Lynn’s shop and check out her adorable patterns! You don’t want to pass this one up, it’s a winner around here!
