Sometimes my friends ask me to make things for their kids that I end up loving so much, I put it on my list to make for my own girls. And this Barbie outfit definitely tops the list!!
In fact, I think it’s fair to say this outfit is in my top 5 favorite things of all time I’ve ever made!
I was a Barbie FANATIC as a child. To this day, my parents have several Rubbermaid containers in their basement stuffed to the brim with dolls, clothes, accessories, furniture, and the ever-coveted red Ferrari.
So when I happened across this fabric a few months ago, I got half a yard, not entirely sure what I was going to do with it. But when my friend asked me for a Barbie outfit for her daughter’s birthday, I dreamed this little number up and I’m so happy it came out exactly the way I pictured it in my mind!
I made the swing top easy off and on with buttons on the shoulders, and simple elastic waist capris. I’m actually really loving the pants and think they’d be adorable with a solid black or pink shirt on their own! I appliqued Barbie’s head on the top, and added the ribbon to her hair. She’s just so precious!
And I’m happy to say, my love of Barbie has rubbed off on Sofie. She adored the outfit (and had quite the little fit when I put it in an envelope to go to it’s owner!) and has been asking me to wear the “Darbie Dress” every day since I had her model it!
I’m happy to see my favorite toy is living on for the next generation to love and adore. And she’s still quite fashionable!

Adorable, are you going to do a tutorial or did you use a pattern. My almost 3 year old needs an outfit like this.

I love, love, love the top. Do you have a pattern? Not so much the applique but the basic shirt part. I’d love to make my girls dresses and like the “frame” of this top.

No, I’m sorry, I didn’t make a tutorial. Though maybe I should!

I would love to see a tutorial on this sweet outfit! I have identical twin granddaughters; they would look so cute in this outfit.
I am loving your website!~ It’s very expensive to buy for twins so thought I would take up sewing.
Thanks
