Classic Oxford from Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop review September 10, 2013 – Posted in: Giveaways

I’m so excited to be participating in the Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop Fall Tour!

fall 2013 tour Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop

I debated back and forth for a long time about which pattern I wanted to try for this. But I figured since my girls get lots of blog time, I should focus on my sweet boy for a change. Ollie is 7 months old now and I needed to do a little photo shoot to document his rapid growth (and ridiculous adorableness!).

The Classic Oxford is absolutely precious! It was so perfect for him.

I’ve been saving this fabric for years, not sure exactly what I wanted to do with it. I was waiting for the perfect project and I’m sure this was it. I couldn’t pass up the chance to make him a little tie with the coordinate I grabbed at the same time.

This is a real tie I made from piecing together other tie patterns. It actually goes around his neck and ties, there’s no velcro or elastic here!

This oxford was a lot more challenging than I was expecting! I didn’t have enough fabric to do the long sleeves and cuffs, but I liked the tab look, so I left the cuffs off and just rolled the sleeves up and stitched them in place for a cute faux-roll.

And instead of sticking with classic, expected buttons, I went for these precious matching ones I was thrilled to find in my stash!

I would say this oxford pattern isn’t a good one for beginners. There were moments I got frustrated because I couldn’t get things lined up perfectly or it wouldn’t lay totally flat and I’d want to chuck it out the window. Getting the sleeves in was definitely the hardest part, but I powered through it and absolutely LOVE the finished product. Don’t shy away from it, I urge you to try the pattern. I promise you won’t be sorry!

I’d always thought I’d just make Ollie pants or a tie that coordinate with the special outfits I make the girls for holidays and special occasions, but now I can make him adorable shirts instead! I’m so happy to have this pattern and foresee many, many more Classic Oxfords in our future!
