Fairies, tutus, and Candy Corn November 4, 2010 – Posted in: Family, Sewing

It all started with a book.

We have some very dear friends who love our girls almost as much as we do. They mailed us a book a few months ago, and I have to say, it’s one of the most remarkable books I’ve ever seen! It’s full of fairies, all kinds of fairy facts, folklore, and most importantly, pop-up pictures.

Needless to say, she’s hooked. I have to keep the book out of her reach, and watch her when she’s looking at it, because she tries to play with the pictures like they’re people!

I adore watching her with this book. Her fingers lightly manipulating the images, her face spread in a smile of pure joy.

So, it was no surprise to me that a few weeks after receiving this magnificent book, she took notice of Tinker Bell.

The obsession grew quickly, and before I knew it, we were watching “Bell” movies multiple times a day. She talks about the characters (I swear she loves Bobble and Cheese as much as Tinker Bell!), asks to watch the movies, and begs to go down the Bell aisle at Walmart. Her Santa list will be easy to complete this year!

So when Halloween rolled around, I asked her if she wanted to be Curious George or Tinker Bell and she promptly yelled “BELL MOMMY, BELLLLLL!” Not that she understood what Halloween was, but the idea of anything to do with Tinker Bell was going to be her choice. In a fit of insanity, I decided to buy some (sale) organza at JoAnn’s. In my imagination, my serger and some great fabric was all I needed to create the perfect Halloween costume for my girl.

Days later I was knee deep in celery green fabric, kicking myself for this ridiculous idea. But, I persevered and after way too many ripped seams, poked fingers, and swear words directed at my serger, she donned her beloved Tinker Bell costume and had the time of her life Trick-or-Treating with her cousins.

No holiday would be complete without a little piece of sweet perfection!

Happy Halloween!
