Style That Kid ebook review June 11, 2014 – Posted in: Tutorials

Have you ever visited the blog Alida Makes? I “met” Alida virtually last year and have completely fallen in love with her. She’s amazing and her blog is nothing short of spectacular. The clothes, the styling, the photography–all to die for. Which is what brings us to this post today. Alida wrote an ebook!! It’s called Style That Kid and I got the chance to review it.

I knew I wanted to reshoot an old outfit from the blog, and the second I decided to revisit a previous post, I knew exactly the post I wanted to do. We were drenched by months of rain last year and the week I was up for my Sally Dress review was no different. It was day after day of dark, gloomy days and I had to make do. My pictures were seriously lacking and I was disappointed in them. Chloe is hard enough to photograph without adding in bad weather and lighting! So I was thrilled to give it another shot. And I LOVE the new pictures!

I’ve read blog posts about photography and elements that add or detract from your photos. So I tried that–interesting head piece, prop, different angles. But still they came out dull, drab, and as gloomy as the weather.

Sew Like My Mom

So I read through Style That Kid and challenged myself to reshoot the dress in the same location (our driveway) and see if I could get vastly different results. And I DID.

Style That Kid provides easy to understand concepts on how to best photograph your child, what locations work best, how to style their hair, accessories, lighting, the works! I was excited to put some of the principles to work, even if it meant successfully taking pictures of my normally uncooperative beautiful little girl instead of her sweet dress.

I still have a lot to learn, but in the mean time, I know I’ll be taking photos that are more interesting, polished, and thought out. I thoroughly enjoyed this ebook and I know it will serve me well in the years to come.

Do you see this book helping lots of people take beautiful pictures of their children, Chloe?
